In The Middle...Bull's Eye

November 4, 2010

Recently a friend of mine wrote a blog in which she basically told the truth and thus managed to become the center of a huge dart board where being in the middle meant being in the bull’s-eye.

Now this person is one of the least controversial people I know. Kind. Hard working. Smart. Loyal. Talented. All of those qualities come to mind when I think of her. The one thing that doesn’t is “controversial”. In fact, of all the writers I know, she is probably one of the few that isn’t crazier than a shit house rat, and probably the only one that doesn’t go out of her way to draw attention to herself in that “Look at me! Look at me!” way that afflicts most artistic people.

What did she do? What did she say? In short, she didn’t say anything that anyone could have really taken offense at unless they worked rather hard to do so. She said intelligent things that landed her deeply in the political middle. Nothing she said was really inflammatory, unless you just wanted to pick her words apart to take offense. Let’s face it -- that is what politics in America has become: The middle being screamed at by the Far Left and the Far Right at every turn.

She had been slated to be guest of honor at a convention, but the convention basically fired her. Uninvited her. Why? Because they said she was anti-woman and anti-Muslim and... Come on! I know this woman. She was a Marine. She is old enough to remember what it was like when women were expected to keep their ass in the kitchen and keep spitting out babies. She stood on the forefront fighting for women’s rights and human rights.

There is not a prejudiced bone in her entire body.

Blogs aren’t professionally edited. If we write something... well, like what I write on these bitch pages, it’s usually something written about something we feel strongly about. We don’t have someone going over it to say, “The way you’ve worded that it could be taken badly by people with a magnifying glass and a stick up their ass.”

We are living in bad times. The Far Right is taking offense at everything and screaming to get their way -- which seems to be working for them. The Far Left is taking offense at everything, screaming to get their way, and then being so afraid of offending anyone that they don’t do a damn thing but get in the way. People who think about our real problems and who have real answers aren’t running for office. No, we’re mostly standing around and wondering why everyone else is screaming and why they’re all so fucking stupid.

The Far Right says whatever they like, and they don’t care what comes back at them. The Far Left says whatever they like, but in their own politically correct way, of course. They both scream a bunch of nonsense.

If people who stand in the middle say anything at all, we are told by both sides that we simply don’t understand.

We do understand. We understand that giving the Rich more and more money doesn’t help the economy, because when you give the Rich money, they horde it. They don’t spend it. We understand that giving people who don’t work huge amounts of money and medical care isn’t an incentive to make them get out and take jobs that pay less than they get in handouts.

We sooo get that we are being taxed more and more while our lives get worse and worse so that the Rich can pay a much smaller percent of their income in taxes than we do.

Don’t tell us that we don’t understand that taxing the Rich would hurt the economy. That’s a lie. They were paying these taxes when Bush took over. The economy was in great shape then, and none of them were moving. They took billions of tax dollars out of the economy, and it failed.

We’re in the middle of the worst economic recession since The Great Depression, and the Rich have gotten richer. If they don’t let go of some of that money, the economy can’t get better. They know that, and they just bought yet another election. Let’s see if they’ll loosen those purse strings and let things get better now that their people are in office, or if they’re just going to continue to screw us because there is nothing to stop them.

In order to have an opinion, you now have to have a group that you can side with 100%. If you stand in the middle and choose how you feel about the issues based solely on what makes sense -- side with no one because they’re both stupid, or take one from column Red and one from column Blue -- everyone will attack you like a minnow in a shark tank. Why? Because what society finds most inexcusable at this time is people who think for themselves instead of allowing themselves to be pulled around by the nose by two political parties who each have their own definitions of freedom, and neither of them think freedom includes allowing people to talk who don’t agree with them.

No one is speaking for me, not on the political front for damn sure. The Far Right and the Far Left are all about the drama, stirring people up over stupid shit that shouldn’t be a matter of government in the first place. The Republicans scream about big government and wanting no more laws while pushing for laws against homosexuals and abortion. The Democrats say they’re against the Rich and for the Middle Class, but they’re all Rich and when push came to shove, they voted the way the corporations wanted them to, so they’re two-faced.

I don’t like anyone in public office. They’re all a bunch of rich idiots who at the end of the day use buzz words and bullshit to keep their high-paying powerful jobs without one bit of care for us.

What people don’t do is just talk anymore. They don’t give anyone a chance to explain what they’ve said. We don’t stand up as a group and say, shut up it wasn’t that big a deal. We let elected officials talk all the shit they want, and then they say they’re sorry and go on and get re-elected. But let someone in the private sector with an idea write a blog and let one moron take offense, and everyone overreacts.

I say Use Your Brain. Quit listening to idiot pundits. If you don’t like something someone says, then try asking them if they meant what you thought they said before you demand action be taken against them.

There is a convention out there who has done themselves out of one of the best guest of honors they could have had, and they got rid of her for a stupid reason.
